Stylistic companion to the Rathaus is the Perlachturm just to the north. It's attached to the little Romanesque church of St Peter, but it quite dwarfs the church, since Holl remodelled and raised it to a height of 70m in order to accommodate the bells from the old town hall. It's quite a climb to the top, though you're rewarded with superb views over Augsburg and the surrounding region – as far as the Alps on a clear day. On the way up, photographs show the extent of Augsburg's 1944 destruction.
