Adrian de Vries' 1602 Herkulesbrunnen – the third of Augsburg's Renaissance fountains – stands in front of the most imposing Rococo building in the city, the Schaezlerpalais. Built in 1765 as a town palace for Baron Adam Liebert von Liebenhofen, it now houses the paintings of the Deutsche Barockgalerie, including works by Angelika Kauffmann, Rubens and Tiepolo. High point of the visit, however, is the beautiful Rococo Festsaal, or ballroom, which is used as a concert venue in the summer months – it can't be heated, so it can't be used during the winter. The same ticket also admits you to the Staatsgalerie (Tues– Sun 10am–5pm), whose collection of older works includes a 1520 Dürer portrait of Jakob Fugger the Rich.
