Berlin
City West
Immediately southwest of Mitte, City West, West Berlin's old centre, is the most commercial neighbourhood, where shopping streets lined with showcase Cold War building projects radiate from the crumbling spire of the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche (Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church) between rows of department stores. Berlin's zoo populates the western fringes of the Tiergarten park and lends its name to Bahnhof Zoo opposite, the main transport hub for City West. Though it feels like a coherent entity, City West isn't a borough in its own right, instead straddling the districts of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf and Schöneberg.
