Once nationally important as the residence of the last chancellor of the Second Reich, who announced the abdication of the Kaiser and paved the way for the Weimer Republic, the Prinz-Max-Palais is now of purely local interest as Karlsruhe's Stadtmuseum. It's the best place to see the city as it was originally intended in 1834 via a splendid collection of prints and maps. Also here is the Daisienne, the 1818 work of a local inventor, claimed to be the world's first bicycle.
