The Côte d'Azur
St-Tropez
By the evening of World War I ST-TROPEZwas an established bohemian hangout. In 1956, Roger Vadim filmed Brigitte Bardot in Et Dieu... Créa la Femme; the international cult of Tropezian sun, sex and celebrities promptly took off and the place has been groaning under the weight of visitors ever since. As the summer playground of Europe's youthful rich, St-Tropez remains undeniably glamorous, its oversized yachts and infamous champagne "spray" parties creating an air of hedonistic excess. Unless you have the holiday budget of a supermodel or Formula One racing driver, however, it can feel like a party you're not invited to.
