Musée Granet
Opening time: Wed– Mon 11am–6pm
Price: €10
Address: Place St-Jean-de-Malte
The most substantial of all Aix's museums, the Musée Granet , covers art and archeology. Finds from the Oppidum d'Entremont are displayed in the basement, and there's a commemorative exhibition marking one hundred years since the death of the most famous Aixois painter, Paul Cézanne, on the first floor. Those on permanent display are a less impressive handful of minor canvases such as Bathsheba, The Bathers and Portrait of Madame. There are also two of his student drawings from when he studied on the ground floor of the building, at that time the art school Granet. The rest of the museum's paintings are a mixed, rather uninspiring, bag – Italian, Dutch, French, mostly seventeenth to nineteenth century.
