Getting around

Public transport users will find all the main urban centres covered here well connected by trains, with most of the smaller towns and villages also accessible by regular, if infrequent, bus services. Off the main routes, though, particularly in the Bordeaux wine region and on the islands, having your own transport can be a major advantage – although cycling is often an attractive alternative.
