Pointe du Raz

Thirty kilometres west of Douarnenez, the Pointe du Raz – the Land's End of both Finistère and France – is designated a "Grand Site National", and makes a magnificent spectacle. Buffeted by wind and waves and peppered with deep gurgling fissures, it's quite a wild experience to walk to the end and back. Don't expect to have the place to yourself; with three million visitors every year, they've had to build a huge car park 1km short of the actual headland (€5 cars, €3 motorcycles), alongside a new information complex (April– June & Sept daily 10.30am–6pm; July & Aug daily 9.30am–7pm; 02.98.70.67.18, www.pointeduraz.com ). To get to the pointe, take the free navette, then walk the most direct route, along an undulating, arrow-straight track or take a longer stroll along the footpath that skirts the top of the cliffs.
