The Thackray Museum is essentially a medical history museum, but a hugely entertaining one nevertheless, with displays on subjects as diverse as the history of the hearing aid and the workings of the human intestine. It's gruesome, too, with a film of a Victorian limb amputation in a gallery called "Pain, pus and blood". Needless to say, children love it.
