The Jam House 3 St Paul's Square
0121/200 3030
www.thejamhouse.com Jazz, funk, blues and swing joint pulling in artists from every corner of the globe. Opening time: Daily except Mon from 6pm
3 The Old Fox Hurst St Over-modernized but popular pub, with an excellent selection of beers and a boisterous atmosphere. At least the great long windows (of 1891) have survived the updaters.
4
Old Joint Stock 4 Temple Row West This delightful pub has the fanciest decor in town – with busts and a balustrade, a balcony and chandeliers, all dating from its days as a bank.
5 Tap & Spile 10 Gas St Charming traditional pub with rickety rooms and low-beamed ceilings beside the canal. Once the hang-out of weathered canal men, it now attracts tourists and locals in equal measure.
6 Tarnished Halo 21 Ludgate Hill Great name for this jam-packed bar where students hang out in numbers.
