You can hardly miss the six-storey glasswork of Urbis, a huge and distinctive sloping structure purpose-built as a museum and exhibition centre. The emphasis here is very much on urban life and modern culture – from punk through to graffiti and beyond. Manchester, as the world's first industrial city, is given due prominence.
