Though the tumult of shipping which once fought the current has gone, the Pier Head landing stage remains the embarkation point for the Mersey Ferry to Woodside (for Birkenhead) and Seacombe (Wallasey). Straightforward ferry shuttles operate during the morning and evening rush hours. At other times the boats run circular fifty-minute "river explorer" cruises.
