England Guide
The Northwest
Arrival
Most long-distance and regional buses pull in at the stops on Vicar's Lane, a five-minute walk from the city centre. Local buses use the Bus Exchange right in the centre of town, between Princess and Hunter streets, off Northgate Street. From the train station, to the northeast of the centre, it's a good ten-minute walk down City Road and Foregate Street to the central Eastgate Clock. A shuttle bus (Mon– Sat 8am–6pm, free with rail ticket; every 15min) links the train station with the Bus Exchange. Drivers should note that city-centre parking is thin on the ground, which makes Chester's Park-and-Ride scheme attractive – just follow the signs on any of the major approach roads.
