The Discovery Museum puts into context Newcastle's history in a series of impressive displays housed in the former headquarters of the Co-operative Wholesale Society. Stand-out attractions include the "Newcastle Story", a walk through the city's past with tales from animated characters along the way, and the interactive "Science Maze" which focuses on Newcastle's pioneering inventors (including one Joseph Swan who, according to locals at least, beat Edison to the invention of the light bulb).
