    Central Station is a five-minute walk from the city centre or Quayside, and has a Metro station.

    National Express services arrive at the coach station on St James's Boulevard, not far from Central Station, while most regional bus services use Haymarket bus station (Haymarket Metro). Many other city and local bus services use the station in Eldon Square Shopping Centre.

    Newcastle International Airport ( 0871/882 1121, www.newcastleinternational.co.uk ), six miles north of the city, is linked by Metro to Central Station (5.50am–11.10pm, every 7–15min; 23min; £2.70) and beyond. A taxi into the centre costs round £15.
