Renowned for its mild climate, sheltered site and glorious sandy beach, the resort of BOURNEMOUTH has a single-minded holiday-making atmosphere. Though it has acquired an unshakably genteel, elderly image, the geriatric nursing homes are counterbalanced by burgeoning numbers of language schools and a nightclub scene fuelled by a transient youthful population. Apart from its pristine sandy beach (one of southern England's cleanest) Bournemouth is famed for its unusually high proportion of green space – a sixth of the town is given over to horticultural displays.
