The City Museum and Art Gallery has sections on local archeology, geology and natural history, as well as an important collection of Chinese porcelain, glassware, stoneware and ivory, and some magnificent eighth-century BC Assyrian reliefs. Art works by English Pre-Raphaelites and French Impressionists are mixed in with some choice older pieces, including a portrait of Martin Luther by Cranach and Giovanni Bellini's unusual Descent into Limbo.
