South Moravia
Znojmo
Perched spectacularly above the deep valley of the River Dyje, ZNOJMO (Znaim) boasts one of the biggest, best-restored and most atmospheric old towns in western Moravia. With irregular squares linked by zigzagging alleys, it's the perfect place to indulge in aimless urban strolls. There's also plenty to see, with the castle museum and Romanesque rotunda topping the list. Znojmo receives a lot of Austrian and German day-trippers, but most have left by early evening.
