7769 0777 Classy hotel, centred on a colonial-style house and its twin patios, though there is some modern accommodation. Rooms are quite spacious with very attractive furnishings and cable TV, but those on the lower floor can be a little dark. There's a gorgeous dining room, free internet and parking. Price: $31-40
2 Hotel Los Cumbres 4 C 6–83 7764 1189 Looks a bit grim from the street, but the plain, smallish rooms are clean and acceptable for a night. Price: $8-12
3 Hotel Gobernador 4 Av 1–45 7764 1197 Warren of a place run by a friendly family, though they should invest a little more in the fixtures and fittings as some rooms are looking tired and weary. Price: $8-12
4 Hotel Guatemex south side of bus terminal 7769 0398 The best inexpensive hotel close to the terminal, this place has good rooms in three price categories – the higher up you go, the nicer they become. All have decent-quality beds and TV, and towels are provided. Price: $13–30
5 Hotel Mary 2 C 3–52 7764 1618 This well-run hotel is centrally located and has small, bright and pleasant rooms – all have cable TV and most have a private shower. Price: $8–20
6 Hotel Maya 3 Av 3–55 7764 0369 Concrete hotel that's a bit soulless, but does represent decent value. All rooms are quite spacious, with decent beds and private bathroom. Parking. Price: $21-30
7 Hotel Royal Park 6 Av 2–34 7762 7774 Flashy place with a gaudy colour-scheme, but the modern rooms all have excellent mattresses, huge TV and a desk. Rates include breakfast. Price: $41-60
8 Hotel San Luis de la Sierra 2 C 7–00 7764 9217 A well-run, modern hotel with attractive tiled rooms, all with bathroom, cable TV and pine furnishings; some have wonderful views of the mountains. There's ample parking and a restaurant. Price: $21-30
9 Hotel Vásquez 2C 6–67 7764 1338 Garish-looking, salmon-pink hotel with twenty renovated rooms: all are tiled and have new beds, TV and private bathrooms. Price: $13-20
10 Hotel Zaculeu 5 Av 1–14 7764 1086 Something of an institution in Huehue, this long-running hotel has spacious rooms with a colonial flavour – those in the original building could be a little more airy, but have the most character. There's a lovely garden courtyard bursting with bamboo and bougainvillea, and a restaurant. The hotel charges per head, so it's a great deal for solo travellers. Price: $31-40
11 Todos Santos Inn 2 C 6–74 7764 1241. A pretty good deal, this budget hotel has sixteen smallish, bright rooms (some with private bath); they vary in quality, so try to bag one upstairs. Shared bathrooms are clean, and there are cheap rates for singletons. Price: $8–20
