The new city
South of Zona 1, the new city is far more spread out and the roads are much broader. The first zone you enter is Zona 4, from where, continuing south, the new city roughly divides into two, split down the middle by Avenida La Reforma. Zonas 10 and 14, on the east side of Avenida La Reforma, form the smartest part of town, with banks, hotels, restaurants, boutiques and walled residential compounds – the natural habitat of Guatemala's wealthy elite. The western half, zonas 9 and 13, incorporating several museums, the zoo and airport and more residential suburbs, is less exclusive, but still a nice part of town.
