Guatemala Guide
Getting around
By ferry and boat
Two of Guatemala's most unmissable boat trips are through the spectacular Río Dulce gorge, either starting in Lívingston or the town of Río Dulce, and across volcano-framed Lago de Atitlán. Note that you should be able to rent a boat somewhere on almost any of the country's other navigable waterways, though be prepared for hours of patient bargaining, as the boat owners ask serious money for any excursions.Along the Pacific coast, the Chiquimulilla canal separates much of the shoreline from the mainland. If you're heading for a beach you'll find a regular shuttle of small boats to take you across the canal, including services from La Avellana to Monterrico.
