    1 Antojitos Gaby C Marcos Sánchez Díaz A cheap, clean little comedor with a few streetside tables and a menu that includes the usual Guatemalan staples plus great sopa caracol, omelettes and fried fish.

    2 Bahía Azul C Principal A very popular café-restaurant in a fine old Caribbean building, with an inexpensive menu (try the coco burguesa) and an excellent terrace for watching the world go by.

    3 Buga Mama just left of the jetty Stylish little wood-framed restaurant with balcony tables that catch the breeze. Good shrimp, tapado, pasta and strong coffee.

    4 Author Pick Hotel Casa Rosada Price: dinner $13 7947 0303. Dinner at this lovely hotel restaurant is a communal, three-course affair, served from 6.30pm. Mains include filet mignon, lobster, sea bass and tapado, and there's always a vegetarian option. Book ahead.

    5 Vecchia Toscana Price: $18 a headon the beach 7947 0883 This hotel restaurant offers authentic, if expensive Italian cuisine, with a wood-fired oven for pizza, fresh pasta, fish and meat dishes including milanesas. There's a superb Italian wine list too. It's very rarely busy so you might want to call ahead to place your order.
