Arrival
The only way you can get to Lívingston is by boat, either from Puerto Barrios, the Río Dulce, Belize or, very occasionally, from Honduras. Wherever you come from, you'll arrive at the main dock on the south side of town. Lívingston is a small place with only a handful of streets, and you can see most of what there is to see in an hour or two. Straight ahead up the hill is Calle Principal, the main drag with most of the restaurants, bars and shops, and the immigration office (daily 6am–7pm), where you can get an exit stamp, if you're heading for Belize, or an entrance stamp, if you've just arrived.
Scheduled ferry boats leave for Puerto Barrios daily at 5am and 2pm (1hr 30min; US$1.75), supplemented by lanchas, which leave when full (roughly every 40min 6.30am–5.30pm; 30min; US$3.50). Boats also run to Punta Gorda in Belize on Tuesdays and Fridays at 7am (1hr; US$22) and to Omoa in Honduras when there are sufficient numbers (US$300 per boat; 2hr 30min). Combined boat/shuttle-bus tickets are sold by Exotic Travel to Antigua, Copán (both US$37), San Pedro Sula (US$45) and La Ceiba (US$55).
