Cuba Guide
Trinidad and Sancti Spíritus
Arrival
Interprovincial buses navigate their way slowly into Trinidad's bus terminal (
41/99-4448) at Piro Guinart e/ Maceo e Izquierdo, just inside the colonial centre of the town and within easy walking distance of a number of casas particulares. Arriving on the coastal road by car from Cienfuegos or further west will bring you into town on Piro Guinart, which leads directly up to the two main roads cutting through the centre of the city, Martí and Maceo. From Sancti Spíritus and points east, the Circuito Sur takes cars closer to Las Cuevas hotel, but a left turn at Lino Pérez will take you into casa particular territory.
On the southwestern edge of town, the train station (
41/99-3348) serves only local destinations, including El Valle de los Ingenios, and a few kilometres further in the same direction is Trinidad's small airport (
41/99-6393), predominantly serving chartered flights. From here the only way to get into town is to take a taxi for a few convertible pesos; you'll pay at least twice as much to get to the hotels on the Península de Ancón.
