Santiago de Cuba

Arrival

International and domestic flights arrive at the Aeropuerto Internacional Antonio Maceo ( 22/69-1052), near the southern coast, 8km from the city. Metered and unmetered taxis wait outside and charge around $15–18CUC to take you to the centre, though there is sometimes a bus that meets flights from Havana, only charging around $5CUP for the same journey. You can arrange car rental at the Havanautos desk at the airport ( 22/68-6161) or at agencies in town.

Interprovincial buses pull in to Santiago at the Astro bus terminal on Avenida de los Libertadores ( 22/62-3050), 2km north of the town centre. Next door, tourist buses arrive at the Víazul bus depot ( 22/62-8484). Taxis descend on tourists arriving on the Víazul like locusts on ears of corn; the journey to the centre from either terminal is around $5–6CUC. Provincial buses pull in at the Terminal de Omnibus Intermunicipal, on Paseo de Martí, north of Parque Céspedes ( 22/62-4325).

Arriving by train, you'll alight at the attractive, modern station near the port, on Paseo de Martí esq. Jesús Menéndez ( 22/62-2836). From here, horse-drawn buggies and bicitaxis can take you the short jaunt to the centre for around $3CUC, while a taxi will cost about $5CUC.
