ATMs

The number of ATMs in Cuba is slowly increasing but there are still relatively few and most of them only accept cards issued by Cuban banks. Among those that do accept foreign credit and debit cards, very few take anything other than Visa, and again none accept cards issued by American banks. Most ATMs display stickers stating clearly the cards they accept. Those that take foreign cards are generally found in top-class hotels or branches of the Banco Financiero Internacional or the Banco de Crédito y Comercio. Though finding an ATM in Havana is now fairly easy, they are still all but nonexistent outside of the largest cities and Varadero.

As with all transactions involving a foreign credit card in Cuba, the amount you withdraw in convertible pesos will be converted into US dollars and, when using ATMs, there will also be a commission charge, details of which should appear on the withdrawal slip issued with your cash.

In Cuba, ATM machines return your card at the end of the transaction. Remember to collect your card before you leave.
