Though lacking in good bars and restaurants, the colourful and sometimes lively Parque José Martí is stamped with definite heart-of-the-city status by the concentration of attractive and strikingly grand buildings surrounding it. With the trademark statue of Martí at the midway point of the central promenade, a traditional bandstand and neatly kept, tree-swept patches of lawn, the square is a supreme example of the city's generally graceful and tidy appearance.
