1 La Avispa C 1, Av 8/10 Landmark San José lesbian disco-bar (men are also welcome) with a friendly atmosphere, "The Wasp" has three dance floors and several pool tables housed in a distinct black and yellow building. The big nights are Sun & Tues; Thurs is karaoke. There's a $5 cover charge Thurs to Sun. Opening time: Closed Mon & Wed

222-6190 In the restaurant of the same name, this low-key bar-restaurant attracts a mainly gay clientele.
3 Déjà Vu C 2, Av 14/16
236-6332 A mixed crowd – gay, lesbian and straight – come for the hot and happening atmosphere and music, mostly house and techno with some salsa and reggae. Two large dance floors plus a quiet bar and a café. The neighbourhood is pretty scary, so best to take a taxi. Cover charge varies from $3 to $5, though drinks are cheap.
