Jardín Botánico Las Cusingas

382-5805; 3000 colones admission). Owned by Costa Ricans, Las Cusingas aims to educate visitors about tropical ecology and conservation. They offer hiking trails, horseback rides, and a library. Covering 50 acres, the garden features 80 species of stunning orchids, over 100 species of medicinal plants and bromeliads. Over 100 species of birds have been recorded on the grounds. A two hour guided tour costs 3000 colones. They also rent out a rustic yet well-appointed two-room cabin, which accommodates four people without difficulty, for 15,000 colones.
