Accommodation

1 Kor Chok Chai 19/43 Rajdamnoen Soi 8; 055 711247 Unsigned in English, but recognizable by its pair of Chinese stone lions guarding the door, this is a decent budget hotel in the centre of the new town, near the fruit and veg market. Most guests are salespeople, so there's some call-girl activity after hours, but it's clean, comfortable and friendly. Price: B260

2 Phet Hotel 189 Thanon Bumrungrat 055 712810 www.phethotel.com Though it's dated and rather faded, the air-con rooms are fine and all have TV and wide views over the town's skyline; there's wi-fi and internet in the lobby, competent English-speaking staff and a restaurant, bar and nightclub on the premises.Price: B500

3 Three J Guest House 79 Thanon Rajwithee 055 713129 www.ThreeJguesThouse.com The most traveller-oriented place to stay in Kamphaeng Phet is run by an enthusiastic bank-worker and his family. It's a pleasant, secluded homestay with a dozen comfortable bungalows built from rough-cut logs and set in a Chinese-style rock garden at the back of the family home. All rooms have cosy verandas; the cheapest options share bathrooms and the priciest have air-con. There's bicycle and motorbike rental, internet access, and tours to national parks at weekends. Price: B250
