Southern Thailand: the Gulf coast

Arrival

Nakhon has train connections with Bangkok, Chumphon and Surat Thani, among many others, plus bus routes that include Krabi and Phuket as well as an air-con minibus service to Ko Samui. The bus terminal and train station are both fairly central. The airport (075 369546), served daily by Nok Air (1318 or 02 900 9955, www.nokair.com), is about 20km northwest of the city off the Surat Thani road; air-con minibuses (B80/person) or taxis (B300) meet arriving flights to ferry passengers to the centre of town (on departure, you can catch a minibus to the airport at the Thai Hotel).
