1 Ko Tung 36 Thanon Kong Ka Though it looks nothing much, this little Thai restaurant is always packed with locals and tourists savouring the excellent, good-value southern-style seafood. Special highlights include the sweet mussels (hawy wan), baked crab, and mushroom, long bean and shrimp yam salads.Price: Most dishes B60–80
2 May and Mark Soi 2 Thanon Maharat Early hours, home-baked bread, fresh coffee and full-English fry-ups make this a popular spot for breakfast. Also does tacos, sandwiches, cheese and tuna melts (B160) and pizzas. Opening time: Daily 6.30am–9.30pm
3 Ruen Mai About 2km north of the town centre at 315/5 Thanon Maharat Popular with locals and well regarded, this inviting, artfully planted garden restaurant is well worth making the effort to get to. Among the many highlights of its mostly Thai menu (B60–180), standouts include the perfectly spiced tom yam kung with satisfyingly large prawns, juicy deep-fried ribs, and fried butterfish with tamarind and ginger. Opening time: Daily 11am–9pm
