Banglamphu

Thai boxing at Rajdamnoen Stadium

The violence of the average Thai boxing (muay thai) match may be offputting to some, but spending a couple of hours at a Bangkok stadium can be immensely entertaining, not least for the enthusiasm of the spectators and the ritualistic aspects of the fights. Sessions usually feature ten bouts, each consisting of five three-minute rounds (with two-minute rests in between each round), so if you're not a big fan it may be worth turning up an hour late, as the better fights tend to happen later in the billing. It's often more fun if you buy one of the less expensive standing tickets, enabling you to witness the wild gesticulations of the betting aficionados at close range.
