South Korea Guide
Chungcheong
Daejeon
Every country has a city like DAEJEON – somewhere pleasant to go about daily life, but with little to offer the casual visitor. This major city in the Chungcheong region is a rising star in the worlds of science and administration, and has started to suck away people and investment from Seoul and its satellites. In due course, it may even become the "new" Seoul – parliamentary big-shots are exploring the idea of transferring Korea's capital to the Daejeon area.
There are a number of mildly diverting attractions dotted in and around the city should you find yourself with time on your hands here. Most vaunted are Expo Park, built for an exposition in 1993 and still a source of local pride, and Yuseong, the therapeutic hot-spring resort situated on the western flank of the city.
