Arrival

JR trains arrive at Matsue Station, south of the Ōhashi-gawa. The most convenient Shinkansen stop is Okayama, from where local trains run to Matsue (the fastest takes 2hr 20min). There are also sleeper train services from Tokyo via Yonago, the main San'in coast railway junction, some 25km east of Matsue. Most long-distance buses arrive beside Matsue Station; the rest go to Matsue Shinji-ko Onsen Station. There are overnight services to Tokyo and Fukuoka and daily services to Ōsaka and Hiroshima. For flights, the closest airport is Izumo Airport, 35km west, although Yonago Airport to the east is also an option. Direct buses run from Izumo to Matsue Station (¥1000), while from Yonago it's best to take one of the frequent buses to Yonago Station and then catch a train to Matsue.
