Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art
Around 1km south of Hiroshima Station, on the crest of Hiji-yama, is the thought-provoking Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, or Hiroshima Gendai Bijutsukan, with its ultra-modern collection of art inspired in part by the atomic bombing. Whether or not sculptures and paintings in this museum are to your taste, it's a collection that the city has clearly lavished money on. The surrounding leafy park, Hijiyama-kōen, is dotted with more modern sculptures, including some by Henry Moore, and provides splendid views across the city. To reach the museum, take trams #1, #3 or #5 to Hijiyama-shita and hike up the hill. On Saturday, Sunday and holidays, there's a free shuttle bus from the bus centre to the museum.
Opening time: Tues– Sun 10am–5pm Price: ¥360
