    2 Barcos 2F, 3F, Sanwa Building 2, Yagembori 7-9 This is the place to come if you want to mingle with an international crowd; go upstairs for some Latin vibes and salsa dancing. ¥1000 cover gets you one drink, and they do food too.

    3 Jacara 5F, Shatore No.3 Building, 13-13 Ginzan-chō, Naka-ku The best of Hiroshima's late-night dance bars, Jacara has a friendly vibe and the DJs play a wide range of sounds. Price: The entry charge of ¥1000 includes one drink

    4 Mac Bar 2F, Hiroshima Rakutenchi Building, Nagarekawa 6-18 Laidback bar with a vast CD collection and beers from ¥500

    5 Molly Malone 4F, Teigeki Building, Chūō-dōri This very popular Irish bar is a good place to meet local ex-pats, and the Irish chef rustles up generous-sized portions of tasty Irish food – try the Jameson chicken.

    6 Naka-chan At the south end of Yagembori, near the police box (kōban) This very traditional drinking shack has bags of atmosphere, especially late at night, with pavement tables where you can sip beers and tuck into dishes like grilled fish. You'll find things more easy-going if you go with a Japanese-speaker.

    7 Shack 6F Takarazuka Building, 2-10 Shintenchi Popular place for beers, burgers and Tex Mex food, with a pool table and a couple of dartboards for when you're pining for a bit of pub-style entertainment.
