Tokyo
Roppongi
For over fifty years people have flocked to Roppongi for its wild bar and club scene, which has always been particularly favoured by gaijin. The area remains one of Tokyo's top nightlife spots, but three recent major developments – Roppongi Hills in 2003 and the National Arts Centre and Tokyo Midtown in 2007 – are recasting the area in a far more refined light. The "Art Triangle Roppongi" has been created by the National Art Center Tokyo, Suntory Museum of Art and Mori Art Museum, and all three institutions are seeking to make the area the city's epicentre for contemporary art and design.
