Daikan'yama
A ten-minute stroll west along Komazawa-dōri from Ebisu Station, or one stop from Shibuya on the Tōku Tōyoko line, is Daikan'yama, home to some of the city's classiest homes, shops and watering holes. The village-like area's laid-back vibe is a refreshing break from the frenzy of nearby Shibuya. Daikan'yama's contemporary style has been defined by the smart Hillside Terrace complex, designed by Maki Fumihiko. Strung along leafy Kyū-yamate-dōri, the various stages of Hillside Terrace were developed over nearly a quarter of a century; the Hillside Gallery (Tues– Sun, 10am–5pm; free), opposite the Danish Embassy, has interesting modern art exhibitions.
