Isaniwa-jinja
Walking directly up the hill from Dōgo's old fashioned tram terminus, you'll see a flight of 140 old stone steps with lanterns, leading up to the beautiful Isaniwa-jinja. It hardly feels appropriate that this captivating shrine, built by Matsudaira Sadanaga in 1667 and decorated with delicately painted carvings of animals, birds, plants and the sea, was once called Yuzuki Hachiman-gū and is still dedicated to Hachiman, the god of war.
