Football Café Camp Nou 1-3-14 Makishi, Paradise-dōri Food. Drink. Football. So says the sign above the door. If you hadn't already guessed from the Barça club colours decorating this joint, this is the place to go for a (Barcelona-themed) football night out. Prices are reasonable and there's a variety of staples to go with your helping of whatever match is being shown on the big screens – try the taco-rice. Opening time: Daily except Tues 4pm–2am
2 Helios 1-2-25 Makishi, Kokusai-dōri
098/863-7227 Stylish "craft beer pub" belonging to a local microbrewery and offering several types of home brew including pale ale, Weissen, Pilsner and porter. A small taste of three is ¥700. Also serves bar snacks.
3 Kishimiiru 2F, 1-22-1 Izumizaki Relaxed izakaya,above a garage with fun decor and a range of tasty dishes. You'll eat well for under ¥2000 a head
4 Oni-san B1, 3-12-4 Kumoji Noisy, upbeat izakaya with a grotto-style entrance leading down to a basement complete with devil masks and fake burning torches hanging off the walls. The food's good, prices are reasonable and there's always a free sweet on the way out.

Paul & Mike's Place 2F, 3-2-2 Makishi, Kokusai-dōri Follow the sign up the stairs to find this friendly little gaijin bar just east of Heiwa-dōri. The staff are full of local knowledge on everything from the best places to go kayaking, to introductions to Mimi's language school next door if you're looking for work. Opening time: Daily 7pm–2/3am
