    1 Arowaiyo 2-5-2 Kasumichō Opposite Sagorō, this casual restaurant has steak sets for ¥7350. The town's small foreigner population tend to gather here. Opening time: Daily 5pm– midnight

    2 Benibana-tei 1-1 Kasumichō In the Metro Plaza shopping mall, this cheap and friendly place offers reasonable izakaya-style food and set meals, albeit in somewhat bland surroundings. Price: Daily 11am–10pm

    3 Sagorō 1-6-10 Kasumichō 0236/31-3560 On the second floor above a butcher's shop on Ōtemon-dōri, to the north of Ekimae-dōri. If you fancy a splurge, this is one of the city's best restaurants for beef, dished up as sukiyaki, shabu-shabu or straightforward steaks. Opening time: Daily except SunPrice: From ¥4200

    4 Sakaeya 2-3-21 Honmachi On a side street opposite the AZ store, this is a good choice if you are need of a pit-stop near Nanokamachi-dōri. An unusual selection of ramen in generous portions is served here – in summer, you can even feast on cold ramen, served on a bed of ice with an attractive salad of corn, tomato, beef, shrimp and egg. Opening time: Daily except Wed 11.30am–7pm

    5 Shiraume 2-5-2 Kasumichō. Next door to Arowaiyo, locals fill the table of this restaurant, which serves a range of well-priced seafood-based teishoku (from ¥735), as well as imoni in season (¥520). Opening time: Daily except Sun

    6 Shōji-ya 14-28 Sawaimachi The main draw of this restaurant is the handmade soba, in all its various forms; you might even be able to see the chefs rolling your noodles in the attached workshop. ¥750–1500
