Yamagata is a stop on a spur of the Tōhoku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Fukushima and is along the very scenic Senzan line from Sendai (80min; ¥1100). The central bus terminal is in the Yamakō Building, behind Ekimae-dōri's Yamazawa department store. All long-distance buses use this terminal, while most city buses depart from outside the station's east exit.
