Getting around

The best way of getting around Sendai is by local bus. The minimum fare is ¥100, payable to the driver as you exit, or there's a one-day pass (¥620), though this is only valid within the central zone and not really worth it for most visitors. The Marugoto Pass (¥2500), however, is great for day-trippers using Sendai as a base. The pass, sold at View Plaza and JTB, includes two days of unlimited travel on inner-city buses and subways, plus the JR lines that service Yamadera, Matsushima and Sendai Airport. Sendai has one subway line, running north– south.
