1 Cooper's 1F, 2-1-3 Kokubun-chō. 2 Heiroku-zushi 1-1-1 Chūō-dōri, 2-2-26 Chūō-dōri & 4-5-25 Ichiban-chō Three spick-and-span outlets of this sushi chain in the shopping arcades, with a takeaway service or conveyor-belt counter. Price: ¥100–330
3 Kaki Toku 2F, 4-9-1 Ichiban-chō. Elegant oyster and seafood restaurant with a choice of tables or tatami seating. Set menus cost ¥5250–6720, though there are plenty of cheaper options, including rice and tempura dishes from ¥1000. Opening time: Closed Mon

7 Tasuke 2-11-11, Kokubun-chō. One of Sendai's best-known gyū-tan restaurants, where you can eat tongue in all its forms. If it's full, try the cheaper outlets in the alleys opposite. Opening time: Wed– Mon 11.30am–9.30pm
8 Zamu-Samu 2F, 17-19 Nittsu-chō In an ideal location for guests at Bansuitei-ikoisō, this tasty Indian buffet brings in the crowds at lunch time (11.30am–3pm); the evening menu is more refined, with a wide range of curries and vegetarian/non-vegetarian thalis starting at ¥2100.
