Nara
Nara City Museum of Photography
Situated in a sleek, modern and almost completely underground building, the museum's core collection consists of some eighty thousand photos by the late Irie Taikichi, who spent most of his life capturing Nara and its temples on film. In addition, there's a fascinating group of two thousand photos of Nara during the Taishō period (1912–25) taken by Kudo Risaburo. The exhibitions change regularly, but the collection can always be viewed on video in the museum's Hi-Vision gallery. Opening time: Tues– Sun 9.30am–5pmPrice: ¥500
