Kyūshū

Arrival

Kagoshima airport, served by flights to Seoul and Shanghai as well as domestic routes, is located some 30km from the city. Buses depart roughly every ten or twenty minutes for town (¥1200); regular services (1hr) stop at central Kagoshima's Tenmonkan crossroads before terminating just west of the river at the new Kagoshima Central Station, or Kagoshima Chūō-eki, while express services (40min) head straight for the station. The first stretch of the Tsubame Shinkansen links Kagoshima with Shin-Yatsushiro in Kumamoto prefecture (40min) and, if all goes to plan, the service will be extended right up to Hakata by 2011. Most long-distance buses stop at Tenmonkan before proceeding to Kagoshima Central Station or vice versa.
