Kōbe Maritime Museum
Kōbe's harbour lies directly south of Nankin-machi. Here you'll find the city's most striking architectural feature – the filigree roof of Kōbe Maritime Museum, a swooping white framework symbolizing waves and sails. It's quite a contrast with the tapered red casing of the adjacent Port Tower, which makes a dramatic sight when viewed at dusk from the wharf of the Harbor Land development. The museum itself contains detailed models of a wide range of ships and intriguing audiovisual displays, and has good English explanations, although it lacks the impact of its exterior. Address: Kōbe Harbour Opening time: Tues– Sun 10am–4.30pm Price: ¥500, or ¥800 including entrance to the Port Tower
