Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art
If you're able to spare the time, a visit to the Andō Tadao-designed Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art is highly recommended. Exhibitions tend to focus on artists from the prefecture, but as this includes the postwar Gutai – a controversial group of loosely aligned 1950s artists who went very much against the local grain with their "happenings" and visceral visual art – the quality is extremely high. There's a coffee shop-cum-bar here with a terrace overlooking the waterfront that makes for a good place to recuperate with a reasonably priced glass of wine. Opening time: Tues– Sun 10am–6pmPrice: ¥500, ¥1200 for special exhibitions
