Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art

The excellent Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art's permanent collection provides a brisk romp through superstars of the post nineteenth-century art scene, including pieces by Picasso, Klimt, Matisse and Modigliani, as well as Japanese painters such as Kishida Ryusei and Takahashi Yuichi. The large galleries here also host good temporary exhibitions; there are plans for the museum to be the focus of a new international arts festival in 2010, along the lines of the Venice Biennale. Address: Top floor, Aichi Arts Centre Opening time: Tues– Thurs, Sat & Sun 10am–5.30pm; Fri 10am–7.30pm Price: ¥500
